Data & Integration Hero: Piotr

Enable U is made up of individual heroes. Some work with clients, others send invoices. Some are our first point of contact when we get a call and others work in the background to keep systems running or make new connections

The  Enable U machine works so efficiently mainly because of our many data & integration heroes. This series of Integration Heroes is meant to honor those individuals.

We are chatting with Piotr Laushuk, Software Developer and Team Lead of the 2Distribute Development Team at our Vilnius Development Center.

Hello Piotr, could you tell us what you do on a regular workday?

My day usually starts with the preparation for the daily stand-up of the 2Distribute Development Team. During this stand-up, we discuss what is on the backlog and what each team member will do that day. It is also the moment to check if and where we can help each other and if we are all on the same page about the sprint planning. After the stand-up, I update the backlog in Jira, our project management tooling, and answer questions of colleagues, discuss development issues and brainstorm about resolving them in the best possible way. These colleagues are also the ones in the Dutch office, with whom I discuss the status of the development work for our customers. And if there is any time left, I pick up some of the programming tasks to assist the team.

When did you start working at Enable U?

I joined JNet, now part of Enable U, more than 7 years ago. After finishing a number of programming courses at the Belarus High Tech Park, I received an invitation from them for a job interview and was able to start my career as a Software Developer. About 4 years ago, JNet became part of Enable U and I was appointed Team Lead for the Development Team of our Data Distribution solution: 2Distribute.

What did you do before joining us?

I went to music school as a young boy, playing different instruments, but focusing on the flute. It was fun, but it did not feel like a serious career possibility. So I decided to study Culture & Management and to try my luck in media and communications.  I worked for TV and then moved on to a company that created advertising campaigns for international customers in the Belarus market. I was responsible for planning and executing these campaigns. And for the reporting, making sure our campaigns achieved the goals we set for them.

My son piqued my interest for programming, so I took some programming courses at Belarus High Tech Park. Just for fun at first, but as I liked it a lot, I was more than interested when JNet, now Enable U, offered me a job.

What part of your current role do you enjoy the most?

Mostly the interaction and the communication with the people I work with. We have a very good team, they surprise me on a regular basis with the level of work they deliver. And I love the interaction with the team in the Netherlands, it is very rewarding to get positive feedback from the Dutch customers if we have solved a problem they had or when we have come up with a new solution for them.

What do you do to keep your knowledge up-to-date?

As a programmer, you need to stay curious and read a lot. For each new task, you need to find out what the best approach is. And it often involves researching and learning new things. I read a lot, watch videos and interact with my colleagues to stay up to speed.

How would you describe Enable U as a company?

As a company with professionals that always want to serve the customer and find even better ways to do so. I really love that.

Work is important, but what do you do in your spare time?

When our development center moved from Belarus to Vilnius, I moved to Vilnius as well. I live here with my wife, and my adult son also lives in the city. Nature is very beautiful around here and I love to take a walk or ride my bike, whether on the road or through the forest. I also love to travel and visit cities around Europe. When I travel with my wife, we do a lot of sightseeing, and we focus on the culture in the city we visit. When I travel with my son, we also visit some technology or engineering museums.

What would you like to say to your Enable U colleagues?

Stay curious and never stop developing; the software, but also yourself. And above all, be happy.
